30 Years of Botanical Medicine and a New Chapter Ahead

Thirty years. When I stop to think about it, I realize it’s not just a number — it’s a living history. It’s a full generation of herbal learning, teaching, sharing, and community. For us at BotanicalMedicine.org, these three decades represent far more than the passage of time. They reflect the cumulative growth of a living tradition and the countless relationships, stories, and seeds planted along the way.

Each year added to our timeline is like a growth ring in a strong, enduring tree. The kind of tree that has weathered storms, soaked up sunlight, adapted to shifting seasons — and still stands, rooted deeply in the earth, reaching out into the world.

This 30-year mark isn’t just a moment to pause and reflect. It’s also a moment to recommit — to say, “Yes, we’re still here,” and to look forward to what comes next. That’s why we’ve launched a brand new website. This isn’t just a technical upgrade; it’s a step toward the future. A future where the herbal community we love continues to grow, connect, and thrive in new and meaningful ways.

Creating a new website at this moment in our history is deeply symbolic for me. It’s a fresh doorway into the same welcoming home we’ve been building for decades. We’ve updated the design, reorganized our content, and made it easier for people to find what they’re looking for — whether they’re seasoned herbalists, new students, or simply curious visitors who’ve just discovered the world of botanical medicine.

And alongside this new platform, we’re also carrying forward one of our most cherished commitments: offering high-quality continuing education. We remain dedicated to curating and presenting the best in clinical botanical medicine — taught by experienced practitioners who have spent years working with plants in real-world settings. These sessions, whether delivered at a conference or in an online series, are designed not just to inform, but to empower. In this way, the knowledge we share ripples outward, reaching more hands, more hearts, and ultimately, more healing.

We’re not here to preserve herbal knowledge in a museum — we’re here to keep it alive, practical, and rooted in community.

What 30 Years Means to Our Herbal Community

I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about what these past 30 years mean — not just for us as an organization, but for the larger herbal community that has supported, challenged, and grown alongside us.

  • Intergenerational connection — Many who once attended our conferences or took our courses are now teachers and mentors themselves. There’s a beautiful continuity in seeing those cycles unfold.
  • A living lineage — Our work honors the voices and wisdom of those who came before us, while making space for new perspectives, research, and experiences.
  • A stable presence in a changing world — Herbal medicine often moves in and out of mainstream awareness. Through all the waves of popularity, regulation, and skepticism, we’ve stayed grounded.
  • Collective strength — After 30 years, we’re not just a platform or an archive — we’re part of a living network of herbalists, teachers, students, and plant lovers who support one another.
  • An invitation forward — We’re proud of our roots, but we’re not stuck in the past. We welcome new voices, new challenges, and new ways of learning together.

Rooting Deeper, Growing Forward

This new website represents where we’ve been — and where we’re going. It’s a tool, yes, but also a commitment: to stay engaged, to keep evolving, and to deepen our support for the herbal community.

As we move into this next chapter, I hope this new platform helps people find their way into this work. I hope it offers guidance, connection, curiosity, and care. And I hope it reflects the heart of what we’ve always been about: plants, people, and the relationships that connect us all.

Thank you for being part of this journey. Whether you’ve been with us since the beginning or you just arrived — welcome. The roots go deep, and the path ahead is full of possibility.

With Love,

Linnea Wardwell
