Speaker: Paul Bergner, Medical Herbalist
Plants containing salicylates, aspirin-like compounds, are used worldwide as medicines. These plants also contain a spectrum of other important medicinal constituents, such as flavonoids, polyphenols, tannins, lignans, triterpines, and others, and their medicinal effects are due to the entourage effect of the combined constituents. We will discuss Salix,
Populus, Gaultheria, Betula, Filipendula, Viola, and the Viburnums and describe similarities and differences between them, uses, herb-drug interactions, and safety issues with salicylates.
