Speaker: Christina Veselak, LMFT, CN
This lecture explores how botanical medicine and targeted nutrition can support nervous system repair and resilience during addiction recovery. Participants will examine the impact of substance use on neurotransmitter balance, stress physiology, sleep, and mood, and review evidence-informed use of nervine and adaptogenic herbs such as Avena sativa, Scutellaria lateriflora, Passiflora incarnata, Rhodiola rosea, etc. Nutritional strategies addressing micronutrient depletion, blood sugar regulation, and gut–brain signaling will be discussed as foundational components of recovery care. The session emphasizes gentle, trauma-informed approaches that support stabilization, reduce relapse risk, and promote long-term nervous system health.
