     Speaker Biographies

Rosita Arvigo, DN
Rosita Arvigo is a naprapathic physician, herbalist, international lecturer and author. She has studied with traditional healers in Central America for thirty years and now directs the Ix Chel Tropical Research Foundation in Belize. Her most recent book: Spiritual Bathing: Healing Rituals and Traditions from Around the World. 

Paul Bergner
Editor of Medical Herbalism journal and director of the North American Institute of Medical Herbalism in Boulder, Paul Bergner has trained more than 150 students and interns through 1000 hours of clinical training in medical herbalism and clinical nutrition since 1996. He is the author of seven books on herbalism, nutrition and ethnobotany.

Mary Bove, ND
In addition to her naturopathic practice, Mary Bove is a certified midwife. She is the former Chair of the Department of Botanical Medicine at Bastyr University, and now has a practice in family medicine in Brattleboro, Vermont. She is the author of An Encyclopedia of Natural Healing for Children and Infants.

Amanda McQuade Crawford
Amanda McQuade Crawford is a graduate of Britain’s College of Phytotherapy and has recently returned from New Zealand where she was the senior clinic tutor at Canterbury College. She is currently an herbal consultant in Los Angeles and is the author of The Herbal Menopause Book and Herbal Remedies for Women.

Walter Crinnion, ND
Dr. Crinnion received his naturopathic degree from Bastyr University (1982). He developed a specialty in environmental medicine and operated a comprehensive cleansing center in the Seattle area for twenty years. He specializes in environmental medicine and uses several types of therapies when treating patients, including IV therapy, hydrotherapy, and botanicals. He is the director of the Environmental Medicine Center at Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine in Tempe, AZ, and teaches environmental medicine at all four of the naturopathic medical schools in the United States.

Omar Cruz
The manager of the professional division of Gaia Herbs as well as the herbal educator for health professionals, Omar Cruz is co-author of the forthcoming Protocol Manual of Botanical Medicines for Health Professionals.

Ryan Drum, PhD
Ryan Drum has degrees in chemistry and botany and studied herbs with Ella Birzneck at Dominion Herbal College. Through his 25 years of experience using marine algae therapeutically, he has become an expert in alternative approaches to thyroid health, and in other medicinal uses of seaweed.

Doug Elliott
Doug is an herbalist, storyteller, basket maker and author who presents programs from Canada to the Caribbean. He has written four books, including Wild Roots, and recorded a number of award-winning albums of stories and songs. 

Lisa Ganora 
Lisa Ganora is a specialist in the constituents of medicinal plants. She graduated with distinction in Biology from UNC and has won awards in biology and organic chemistry. Lisa's classes integrate science, art, and spirit to help us understand herbal medicine on the molecular level. She is on the faculty at Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine.

Cascade Anderson Geller
An herbal practitioner and educator for over 25 years, Cascade has been on the faculty of three naturopathic colleges in the US. She and has lectured at institutions and conferences throughout North America, and teaches medicinal herb classes in Portland, Oregon.

Chris Kilham
Chris Kilham is known on CNN as the “Indiana Jones of natural medicine.” He has conducted medicinal research in Asia, South America and Africa and travels the world in search of traditional, plant-based medicines. Chris teaches enthnobotany at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and is the author of fourteen books on ethnobotany.

Kenneth Proefrock, ND
A graduate of the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine (SCNM), Kenneth Proefrock practices in Sun City, AZ, where he specializes in difficult to treat diseases of autoimmunity, mental illness, cancer and other conditions. He has researched the use of herbal medicines in the nebulizer for a variety of pulmonary disorders and has taught nutritional biochemistry at SCNM.

Richard Scalzo
Herbalist, botanical researcher and president/founder of Gaia Herbs, Ric lectures extensively around the country and is the co-author of several books including Herbal Solutions for Healthy Living and Traditional Medicines from the Earth.

CoreyPine Shane
CoreyPine Shane is the director of the Blue Ridge School of Botanical Medicine. He has been studying herbal medicine for over 15 years, and has been seeing clients professionally for ten years. He is currently working on a book about the medicinal plants of the Southern Appalachians.

Jill Stansbury, ND
Jill Stansbury is chairman of the botanical medicine department at National College of Naturopathic Medicine where she teaches pharmacognosy and botanical material medica. She is the author of Herbs for Health and Healing and conducted a practice in naturopathic botanical medicine in Washington State for over ten years.

Martin Wall
An herbalist, educator and plant photographer, Martin Wall is an expert on the plants of the Southeast. His photography has appeared in numerous books and journals, as well as on websites, product labels and the NBC Nightly News.

Decker Weiss, ND
Decker Weiss is an expert in the field of integrative cardiology and is the first naturopathic physician to complete a conventional internship and residency at the Arizona Heart Hospital (AHH). He has continued his work in cardiology as a staff physician at AHH and has recently published The Weiss Method - A Natural Program for Reversing & Preventing Heart Disease. 

David Winston, AHG

David Winston is an herbalist and ethnobotanist with over 35 years of training and experience in Cherokee, Chinese and Western/Eclectic herbal traditions. He teaches botanical medicine throughout the US, Canada and Europe. He is a founding and professional member of the American Herbalists Guild and the Dean of the Herbal Therapeutics School of Botanic Medicine in Washington, NJ.
