Traditional herbal systems provide a vitalistic system of treatment, in contrast to the purely Western atomistic system of herbal medicine, in which herbs are analyzed, standardized, and used as conventional medicine uses drugs. A combination of the two approaches will be presented, with examples in the treatment of arthritis, depression & mood disorders, candidiasis & irritable bowel syndrome.
