Southwest Conference on Botanical Medicine 2005, Tape #3

Title: Botanical Interventions for Thyroid Disease

Speaker: Kenneth Proefrock, ND

When a human has to adapt repeatedly to various stressors in the environment over a long period of time, so much adaptation takes place from subconsciously driven physiologic shifting that neuroendocrine dysfunction becomes inevitable.

Thyroid dysfunction is a common and classic manifestation of neuroendocrine dysfunction.  This talk discusses natural therapies for both hyper and hypothyroidism.  Eliminating blood sugar fluctuations, increasing exercise, and botanical formulas can all play a part.  Discusses the specific uses of ashwagandha, glycine (an amino acid), ginseng, reishi, melissa valerian, yarrow, Leonurus, Aralia and Oplopanax for specific conditions of endocrine dysfunction.
