This comprehensive talk begins with a description of the differences between plant steroids and synthetic hormone replacement therapy (HRT). Current research on the risk of conventional HRT is presented.  The effect of botanicals on the endocrine system is discussed in general, and then specific examples are given.  Botanical therapies for menopausal complaints include remedies for heavy menstrual periods, irregular menses, bone health, hot flashes, insomnia, depression, cardiovascular health and uterine prolapse.  A complete materia medica is presented in the proceedings, which includes many common and not so common herbs.
