Historical uses of Rauwolfia date back to ancient Ayurvedic traditions. Modern science has isolated reserpine and other active constituents. This lecture describes the ancient and modern uses, and the alkaloids which are responsible for Rauwolfia's therapeutic value. Dosages, formulas and clinical techniques for treating insomnia, psychoses (especially drug induced psychosis), and heart disease. Potential side effects are examined.
